Lena Dunham is opening up about her past relationship with Jack Antonoff and one shocking mistake she says helped end it.
“The best medicine was Jack. Here was this boy — no, at 28, he was a man,” the Girls creator, 39, writes, per a Tuesday, April 14 report in Us Weekly. “He had strong arms, and good instincts, and models on video shoots who slipped him their numbers on napkins.”
“I didn’t realize it then, but as our relationship deepened, I relied on him for more than companionship and affection,” she detailed in the tell-all. “His care for me, his choosing me, was an assurance that l was beautiful, lovable, being signed off on by someone who had every choice in the world and had made this one.”
But after her November 2017 hysterectomy surgery, she and the Bleachers musician had their “worst-ever fight” and took a “pause” while he went on tour.
While the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress had been careful to be faithful before, “the events of the past few weeks had changed the game, and it was every woman for herself, just trying to survive,” she explains, adding that while Antonoff was away, she impulsively texted a former middle school boyfriend named Nick “ready to do adultery,” per Entertainment Weekly.
The pair met up and after a makeout session, she went home with Nick. “I’ve been through something awful. I don’t want to talk about it, but I need you to f*** me and I need you to do all of the work,” she recalls, adding that the affair went on for two weeks.

Days after Antonoff returned from the road in 2018, they split. Dunham claims she and Nick then got “engaged,” but split when she went to rehab that April.
The Girls creator also touched on the music producer’s life today, including his 2023 marriage to Margaret Qualley after two years of dating. She revealed, per the outlet, that she and Qualley, 31, were once friends.
“He’d won the friend that I wanted, so when I wept like a child on the first afternoon I saw a paparazzi picture of them kissing on the Brooklyn Bridge, I knew that nobody would understand why I was so upset, that they’d assume it was because I was jealous of her, and that made me weep even harder,” she writes.
