They say a wedding is the most important day of a person’s life — but for Kim Kardashian, her wedding day to Kris Humphries was more than just a huge day for the bride and groom, it was also a major event for an entire network. So, understandably, she was feeling the pressure.
Kim’s marriage to Kris Humphries may have only lasted 72 days, but with $10 million in ad revenue and 10.5 million viewers, it’s still responsible for E!’s highest ratings to date — except it almost didn’t happen. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the mother-of-two reveals that she knew she was making a mistake before saying “I do” and she nearly backed out of her $6 million wedding.

“There was all this attention on the wedding, and I thought maybe it was just the pressure of the show giving me anxiety. My friends told me I just had cold feet, but even the producers said, ‘You don’t seem happy. You don’t have to go through with this,’” she recalls in the tell-all interview with her mother and sisters. “The night before, my mom pulled me aside, off-camera, and was like, ‘This isn’t it for you. Why don’t you go away and I’ll handle it?’ I felt like, if I pulled out now, everyone’s going to think I just did it for the show. Then afterwards, people were saying, ‘You have to stay married for a year,’ but I physically couldn’t do it. When I made the decision [to divorce], everyone said it was made up for the show. Everyone really wanted to take me down.”
Ryan Seacrest — close Kardashian family friend and Keeping Up With the Kardashians executive producer — says it didn’t take long for Kim to admit that she was unhappy in her marriage. He adds, “I remember when Kim called me after the wedding. It was just a few days after, and she just didn’t feel like it was right. She was very candid and open.”
While Kim filed for divorce in October 2011 — 72 days after they exchanged vows, and just three weeks after their wedding special aired on TV — the two were entangled in a bitter divorce battle, and didn’t end up finalizing their divorce until June 3, 2013, days before Kim gave birth to her first child with Kanye West. In the THR interview, Kim muses that drama “created for TV” could’ve been a lot less, well, dramatic.
“Think about this realistically: If it was for the show, don’t you think we would have found someone that signed off? Someone OK with getting married and getting divorced two months later?” she asks. “If it’s for a show, don’t you think you’d want as little legal trouble as possible?”
She adds, “This was real emotions, real feelings. People f–k up.”
