Kelly Clarkson Never Got Her Prize After Winning Season 1 of ‘American Idol’: ‘They Lied’
Kelly Clarkson made an eye-opening revelation about her history-making win on American Idol during a recent episode of her talk show. Chatting with guest Rob Rausch about his payout for winning The Traitors, the 43-year-old announced that she never received her million-dollar prize from the singing competition.
“They lied!” she said in a clip shared online, adding, “It was like ‘a million dollars of investment in you.’” Getting worked up, Kelly griped that she hadn’t received the promised car either. “And I needed it, because my car was bashed in, and I couldn’t afford the [insurance] deductible!”
Insult to injury: Second season runner-up Clay Aiken — and his mom — both received free wheels. Ultimately things worked out OK for the three-time Grammy winner. She’s now worth a reported $45 million!
