Kelly Clarkson Says Taylor Swift ‘Should Re-Record All the Songs You Don’t Own’ Amid Scooter Braun Feud

Music advice from one legend to another. After Taylor Swift revealed that her music had been sold to Scooter Braun — which also included the blonde beauty’s entire music catalog — Kelly Clarkson came up with a solution.

“@taylorswift13 just a thought, you should go in and re-record all the songs that you don’t own, the masters on exactly how you did them but put brand new art and some kind of incentive, so fans will no longer buy the old versions,” the 37-year-old tweeted on Saturday, July 13. “I’d buy all of the new versions just to prove a point.”

Of course, fans couldn’t help but praise the “Broken & Beautiful” songstress on social media. One person wrote, “OMG yes queen of giving ideas,” while another echoed, “This is a brilliant idea, Kelly!!! We would buy them all to support the creative work of Taylor Swift, a smart and fabulously talented woman!” A third person chimed in, writing, “KELLY!!! Girl, thank you!!! Your support is so great and unbelievable. I know you can relate to a similar situation with ‘Because of You’ and a lot of your older work. You’re wonderful. Can’t wait for the new show and album.”

On Sunday, June 30, the 29-year-old pop star explained that her former record label, Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group, had been sold to Scooter, 38, for $300 million. “For years, I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work,” Taylor wrote in a statement on her Tumblr. “Instead, I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed the contract, Scott Borchetta, would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.”

The Pennsylvania native continued her lengthy statement by explaining that she learned Scooter purchased her masters with the rest of the world. “All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years,” she added.

On July 10, the Grammy winner appeared on stage for the first time since she called out the music producer, and it seemed like she didn’t hold back from sending him a message. While performing her hit song “Shake It Off,” Tay put a special emphasis on one line in particular. “The liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world, you could have been getting down to this sick beat,” she sang.
