Taking time for reflection. Katy Perry opened up about her short-lived marriage to comedian Russell Brand just days before the birth of her daughter, Daisy Dove, with fiancé Orlando Bloom.

“It was the first breaking of my idealistic mind,” the 35-year-old, who was still pregnant at the time, said in a pre-recorded interview with 60 Minutes Australia on Sunday, August 30. “I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25, and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating. It was just like a tornado. It was everything happening once.”

Although Katy has a history of liking the chase, she has “always resonated with friction and resistance and challenges,” when it comes to her love life. “I know that inherently [about myself]. Like, ‘OK, it’s gonna take a lot of work but oh, we’re gonna get somewhere great,’ or, ‘It’s gonna be a beautiful diamond. All this pressure is going to turn into [that].”

Despite falling hard for the Get Him to the Greek star, 45, the exes split after 14 months of marriage and finalized their divorce in July 2012. After they called it quits, the blonde beauty found love again with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 43, in 2016, but they broke up and got back together in 2018. Orlando asked the “Roar” singer for her hand in marriage in February 2019, and the happy couple welcomed their first child together on August 27.

Thankfully, Katy and Orlando’s relationship is “healthy frictional,” the songstress told the Australian outlet. “It’s very open, very [communicative], nothing is swept under the mat.”

Although Katy moved on from her tumultuous relationship with Russell, he is “still sad over his divorce from her and was heartbroken by it,” a source told Us Weekly in March. “But he knows she will be an amazing mom.”

Russell isn’t the only ex to send the new parents well-wishes. Orlando’s ex-wife, Miranda Kerr, “has already called to congratulate the pair,” a source exclusively told In Touch, adding that she is “really happy” for her old flame.

It seems like everything worked out for the best!
