Harvey Weinstein‘s years-long legal saga took another dramatic turn.
The 74-year-old disgraced movie mogul will not face a fourth New York rape trial after Manhattan prosecutors said that they are dropping the outstanding charge against him, People reported Thursday, June 25.
The move comes after Weinstein’s third trial ended in a mistrial in May, when jurors deadlocked over whether he raped hairstylist Jessica Mann, 40, in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013. Per the report, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said it would not pursue a fourth trial after Mann declined to testify again, following two grand juries and three trial juries over eight years.
“To be clear, we believe Ms. Mann’s account and her credibility as a witness,” Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg, 52, said in a statement obtained by the outlet. “This has been an extraordinarily taxing ordeal for her, and she has never wavered while testifying in front of two grand juries and three trial juries over the course of eight years.”
Weinstein was convicted last year of a criminal sexual act against former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley, after his original 2020 convictions involving Haley and Mann were overturned by the New York Court of Appeals in 2024. According to the report, Bragg’s office is recommending Weinstein be sentenced to 20 years in prison on the Haley conviction, saying it “would account for the significant harms his actions have caused Ms. Haley.”

After May’s mistrial, Mann said in a statement that the outcome didn’t change her account. “I chose to testify in three trials because I am telling the truth,” she said, per the article.
As In Touch previously reported, Weinstein’s legal fallout has reached beyond his own criminal cases. Michael Ovitz, 79, the cofounder of CAA, was ordered to testify in a lawsuit filed by Julia Ormond, 61, who alleges the powerhouse talent agency failed to protect her from being assaulted by Weinstein in December 1995. A judge also ordered CAA to turn over internal documents related to its knowledge of Weinstein’s conduct toward clients.
Weinstein, who is also serving a sentence stemming from a 2022 California conviction, has denied any nonconsensual sexual contact and remains held at Rikers Island as he awaits sentencing on the Haley case.
