Rex Heuermann — who admitted to killing at least eight women as part of the Gilgo Beach murders in Long Island — told ex-wife Asa Ellerup that he committed the crimes at their home.
In a preview clip of the fourth episode of the docuseries The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets released Monday, April 20, Heuermann’s ex-wife, 62, is interviewed about her interactions with the killer before he pleaded guilty to the murders of eight women.
Ellerup, who filed for divorce shortly after Heuermann’s July 2023 arrest, claimed Heuermann told her he killed eight women even though he was only charged with seven murders.
The 62-year-old recently admitted to the murders of Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla and Valerie Mack as well as Karen Vergata (though he was not charged in her death).
“He said he killed eight women,” Ellerup explained in the clip. “He said I wasn’t home during all of them.”
When asked if any of the women were killed in their house, Ellerup replied, “He said yes. They were killed in his room downstairs. All except one.”
The final episode of the four-part series, which premiered in 2025, will air Thursday, April 23, on Peacock.

According to Peacock, the final episode, filmed in “the lead-up to the plea hearing,” picks up “in August 2025 and details the real-time questioning of Asa to her serial killer ex-husband about the timeline and meticulous planning of the murder that occurred days before their wedding and mere months before the birth of their daughter, Victoria.”
“Additionally, the unprecedented access includes interviews with the family’s psychotherapist, where she reveals her notes and intimate conversations with Rex and the family, as they confront the shocking revelations of the case,” the description added.
Heuermann married Ellerup in April 1996. They share two adult children, including daughter Victoria, and Ellerup’s son Christopher from a previous relationship.
Heuermann strangled his victims, many of whom were sex workers, over 17 years and buried their bodies in remote locations, according to the Associated Press.
Heuermann — who previously maintained his innocence after his 2023 arrest — is expected to be sentenced on June 17 to life in prison without the possibility of parole, per People.
