‘Big Brother’ Contestant Slammed as ‘Homophobic and Degrading’ After Targeting Drag Queen Houseguest

Things are once again heating up on Big Brother.

After Kamuela “Kamu” Kirk won Head of Household this week in the Big Brother house, he’s made it clear that his plan is to get contestant Jason De Puy (a drag queen who competed on the 15th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the 11th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars) out of the game.

During the Wednesday, July 29, episode, Kirk put De Puy on the Block after Lyric Medeiros won the Power of Veto and took herself off. Because Medeiros saved herself from eviction, Kirk had to announce a replacement nominee — which he had already planned to be De Puy.

In video on X, Kirk is seen asking “Zesty Bestie Jason” to take a seat on the Block.

Fans and followers weren’t too thrilled with Kirk’s choice of words, given that “zesty bestie” is slang for a flamboyant or effeminate person — or someone who clearly identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

One X user called the term “homophobic and degrading,” with another writing: “‘Zesty Bestie’ is a borderline homophobic microaggression #bb28.”

“Homophobic dude calls gay drag queen ‘zesty bestie’ after deliberately trying to target said player in a way that actually made most of the house uncomfortable and is shocked that this wasn’t well received 😭,” another wrote.

Some social media users, however, dug up previous instances where Kirk called the drag performer his “zesty bestie,” and it appeared to be received as a term of endearment.

Still, it’s not the first time Kirk has come under fire for what he’s said.

Last week, former contestant Frankie Grande shared video to X that showed Kirk talking about “drag stuff” and said that the “homophobic bigots” need to get evicted from the house.

“Ew this conversation makes me sick to my stomach,” the Titanique star wrote. “I’m disgusted. This better be the biggest thing ever when I wake up tomorrow or I’m flipping a table.”

During the upcoming Thursday, July 30, episode of Big Brother, one contestant will get eliminated as the others compete for the grand prize of $750,000.
