Your New Favorite Conspiracy Theory Says Avril Lavigne Is Dead, Replaced by a Body Double Years Ago

Oh people. Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?!

A popular new conspiracy theory that suggests that Avril Lavigne that we know and love tolerate isn’t the same Avril Lavigne that we met way back in the early 2000s! The theory suggests that the real Avril died some time in 2004, and was then replaced with a body double aka some actress named Melissa Vandella.

The conspiracy theory — which was attributed to a Brazilian fan site — was first proposed in 2015, and recently made the rounds again on Twitter this past weekend.

According to the very intricate theory, the real Avril took her own life in 2004 following the death of her grandfather and mounting pressure from her label to release another album.

Of course, Avril herself has never responded to any of these rumors, but pretty much anyone with even the tiniest bit of critical thinking skills can debunk this one pretty easily. Although, we are willing to take one insane conspiracy theory and raise you another — perhaps this rumors was perpetuated by Avril herself, because it makes sense that you would rather have people think you’re dead than responsible for a marriage to the lead singer of Nickelback…

It would also explain why nothing has ever topped her hits like “Sk8r Boi” or “Complicated.” Although that could also be attributed to the fact that it is no longer 2002, and we are no longer angsty preteens…

Avril is hardly the first star to fall victim to this particular type of hoax/conspiracy theory.

The most famous, of course, is the whole “Paul Is Dead” urban legend about the one and only Paul McCartney; for decades, people have been convinced that the real Paul McCartney died in a 1967 car accident, but the Beatles needed to continue, so they replaced him with a lookalike. According to believers, the Beatles drop multiple hints about the real Paul in many of their songs released around that time.

A more current example would be Miley Cyrus, who was allegedly murdered and replaced by a clone.

All this is to say one thing is pretty much undeniable about this conspiracy theory: You’ve made it, Melissa Avril!!!!!!!
