Angelina Jolie is keeping her distance from ex-husband Brad Pitt following his latest confession.
As In Touch previously reported, Pitt, 62, revealed this week that he’s no longer sober, telling Esquire, “I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon.” He added that he’s since kept things “in a more restrained manner,” admitting, “I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me. Not in big quantities.”
Pressed on whether he can still enjoy a drink, Pitt said, “I can have a few. But I can’t have a lot. I have to be professional about it.”
According to a report Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack published on Tuesday, August 11, Jolie’s circle says the 51-year-old saw this coming long before Pitt made it public. “Angelina is not surprised. She tried to warn people. She knew this was always a possibility,” a source told Shuter.

But the source told Naughty But Nice that Pitt’s caveats haven’t swayed Jolie’s opinion of him. “She doesn’t believe Brad has fundamentally changed. She believes Brad is who Brad is, and no amount of sobriety or reinvention changes that,” the source said.
Pitt told GQ in 2017 that he had regularly used alcohol and marijuana since leaving college, explaining that he eventually realized he was relying on substances to avoid dealing with his emotions. Although he gave up everything but drinking when he started a family, Pitt said his alcohol use later became excessive and developed into a problem.
Pitt got sober in the wake of his 2016 split from Jolie, according to the Naughty But Nice report. The exes then spent eight years locked in a contentious divorce battle before finally reaching a settlement in 2024. With that chapter behind her, the source said Jolie has no desire to revisit the past.

“Angelina’s attitude is simple: ‘I told you so.’ She doesn’t believe him, and she doesn’t want to get dragged back into his drama,” the source told Shuter.
Jolie and Pitt share six children: Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and 18-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Several have publicly distanced themselves from their father by dropping or seeking to drop “Pitt” from their surnames for personal reasons, with Shiloh making the change first in 2024, followed by Maddox, Zahara and, most recently, Vivienne.
For Jolie, it seems, Pitt’s new chapter is his to write alone.
