Known for redefining suave with his unforgettable portrayal of James Bond, Sean Connery retired at the top of his game. Connery won an Oscar in 1988 for his performance in The Untouchables, along with two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. Connery chose to step away from acting after 2003 due to a film that was so catastrophic it shattered his faith in the film industry, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fans still celebrate the late actor’s classic performances, which continue to inspire generations of actors.

Robert Redford

With charm that lit up both the screen and the director’s chair, Robert Redford left Hollywood on his own terms. Redford founded the nonprofit Sundance Institute in 1981 as a champion and curator of stories for stage and screen, according to the Sundance Institute. In 2018, he told the crowd at the premiere for his 2018 film The Old Man & the Gun that he was retiring, per Variety, but later told the outlet he shouldn’t have said that: “If I’m going to retire, I should just slip quietly away from acting, but I shouldn’t be talking about it because I think it draws too much attention in the wrong way.” His final on-screen appearance was in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. He died in 2025.
