There may have been a strip tease at Jessi Ngatikaura’s Halloween party during The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2, but the cops who showed up to the function were not a part of the awkwardly frisky performance.
In Touch explains the drama that went down between the cast of the Hulu series and why the police were called to Jessi’s house.
Why Did the Cops Show Up at Jessi’s Halloween Party?
The drama between Taylor Frankie Paul, Miranda Hope and Chase McWhorter escalated at Jessi’s Halloween party, but the real fight included costars who weren’t a part of the swinging drama.
Miranda’s season 2 debut was a big move, as her crumbling friendship with Taylor created The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives after Taylor revealed via TikTok in 2022 that she and her friends were soft swinging with each other and their spouses.
When Miranda joined the cast, she and Taylor hashed out their issues and cleared the air on what went wrong. Miranda and her ex-husband, Chase, got a divorce after the swinging scandal came to light. More notably, Taylor claimed that Chase hit on her beyond their approved kissing and touching on the weekends after she told him she had a sex dream about him.
That said, the issue came to a head at Jessi’s Halloween party during season 2, episode 2. During a conversation with Taylor’s now ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen, Chase shared his side of the story.
“Did anything happen outside of spin the bottle? No. Everyone in the world thinks I f–ked her,” Chase told Dakota. “When Taylor first went online, I hadn’t told my parents at this point, and again, I’m a returned missionary. Married in the temple. So, I hadn’t told them that I had left the church.”
Chase explained that he played the “deny, deny, deny” game because of it, but admitted that he wished he could “change his reaction.”
“I wish that’s what I could tell Taylor and her family is like, ‘Look, I was trying to hit on you. Yeah. But the cheating situation was only you.’”
Taylor walked up to Chase and Dakota, which quickly turned into an escalated argument.
The fight continued into the following episode, where Demi Engemann approached the trio and told Taylor that she should “de-escalate a little bit.”
Well, the complete opposite of Demi’s suggestion occurred after Miranda kicked Chase out of the party. Chase walked off to find his crying girlfriend, and Taylor started screaming at Dakota for leaving the party with Chase.
While trying to maneuver around Demi on his way out, Chase touched her stomach, while seemingly trying not to bump into her while breezing by.

“I just see red. Oh, no, you did not just condescendingly be like, ‘Oh, worry about yourself’ while I just watched you neglect your girlfriend and then touch me and walk out of here,” Demi said during a confessional. “Like, ‘F–k you.’ So, I immediately go running to [husband] Bret [Engemann] to tell him what just happened.”
Back at the party, Demi told Bret that “Chase laid his hands on her,” and he immediately sprinted to Chase outside while in his Chippendales costume.
“What the f–k are you doing? Did you just touch my wife?” Bret told Chase, before demanding he apologize to Demi.

After Chase said sorry, Jessi’s husband, Josh Ngatikaura, confronted Chase, demanded he “take ownership” and kicked him out of his house.
However, a neighbor overheard the heated argument and called the cops. The police arrived at Jessi’s house and after the hairstylist explained the situation, they left.
Miranda Hope Reacts to Jessi’s Halloween Party Drama
The season 2 rookie shared her perspective on the altercation after the episode aired and claimed that Chase “brushed” Demi, rather than touching her in a harmful manner.
“I was also sitting in the living room; I saw it happen. I’m never going to back my ex when I think he’s doing something wrong. That’s part of why I told him he needed to leave the Halloween party,” Miranda told Vulture in a story published on May 15, 2025. “Yes, we have a good co-parenting relationship, and we are friends, but I’m going to call him out. If I backed him in everything, we probably wouldn’t be divorced. But in that situation, I don’t think what he did warranted Bret and Demi’s reaction.”
Miranda and Chase got married in 2017 and announced their divorce in 2024. They share two kids, Brooks and Cohen.
