In Touch shares who the Wolves are and how their group got its start, according to the details revealed in both the television series and the hit video game franchise.

Who Are The Wolves in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?

The Wolves are members of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), a Seattle-based militia that currently includes key characters such as Abby Anderson (Kaitlin Dever), Owen Moore (Spencer Lord), Mel (Ariela Barer), Manny Alvarez (Danny Ramirez), Nora (Tati Gabrielle) and more.

When Did Abby Join the WLF in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?

Abby and Owen were both former members of the Fireflies – a rebel group seeking to find a cure to the Cordyceps brain infection (CBI).

After Joel (Pedro Pascal) stormed the hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, and killed her father, Dr. Jerry Anderson, and other members of the rebel group while saving Ellie (Bella Ramsey), the Fireflies were forced to disband.

With few places left to go, Abby and her friends then traveled to Seattle to join the WLF. They are with the group roughly five years before Abby gets her revenge on Joel for the death of her father.

How Did the WLF Start in ‘The Last of Us’?

The WLF was founded by Emma and Jason Patterson as a counter response to FEDRA (Federal Disaster Response Agency) after it took control of the U.S. government following the CBI outbreak. After the Pattersons were killed by the military, another early member named Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright) took over as leader.

The WLF’s initial purpose was to fight for better living conditions for the citizens living in FEDRA-controlled quarantine zones – from leading peaceful protests to outright attacking military convoys and checkpoints – but the group eventually grew to become a major authority in Seattle, Washington, and ruled over the remaining survivors in the area.

The WLF’s War With the Seraphites in ‘The Last of Us’

The WLF began as freedom fighters seeking liberation from an oppressive military presence, but over the years, they became consistently fearful and aggressive to outsiders. This was particularly true with the Seraphites, a cult-like community the WLF calls “Scars” due to the healed markings on their faces.

As tensions rose, a war broke out between the two factions after the Seraphites’ leader, who is only known as the Prophet, had a group of their soldiers attack several WLF trucks on a supply route.

In The Last of Us: Part II video game, a former Seraphite named Lev (who is expected to appear in the show either near the end of season 2 or in season 3) argues that the Prophet didn’t have a choice but to act against the WLF.

The Prophet was eventually captured and put to death by Isaac, but the war continued on in her name.
