Christie swadling barcroft tv victorias secret annorexic2
Christie Swadling used to idolize Victoria's Secret models, but the obsession nearly cost the teen her life.
The Australian native started dieting at age 12 in hopes to resemble former VS angel Miranda Kerr. She spent three to four hours each day working out, and was eventually became anorexic.
By 16, Christie’s health was at serious risk, and she spent her next birthday in the hospital.
“I was so dangerously underweight and I was practically on my deathbed,” she told ‘Barcroft TV.’
"I was admitted to the hospital because my vitals, they were so dangerously low, and the doctor actually told me that he’s surprised I was still living and he’s surprised I wasn’t admitted there earlier.”
Christie went through great lengths hoping to look like Miranda.
Christie’s issues took a toll on her family and friends, especially her mother, Fiona.
“It was really heartbreaking, it was very hard,” Fiona explained. “I thought maybe I had done something wrong as a parent. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t really know about anorexia.”
Today, the 18-year-old is back to a healthy weight and supports in the fight against eating disorders. She also disagrees with models flaunting their unrealistically small frames in magazines.
“There’s loads of stuff that I would love to be in the future and do in the future. And I know that having an eating disorder and being that sick, I was not able to get there,” she concludes.
“That was my turning point. That’s why I wanted to change.”
