Is ‘Teen Mom 2’ Alum Jenelle Evans Returning to the MTV Franchise? Details Amid Guest Appearance

Teen Mom 2 alum Jenelle Evans traveled to Los Angeles in August 2023, the same weekend that her former costars were in town filming the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter season 2 reunion, leading MTV fans to believe she’s making her comeback to MTV four years after being fired by the network. She made her franchise comeback in September 2022, though is set to return once again in May 2024.

What Happened During Jenelle Evans’ ‘Teen Mom’ Appearance?

During the September 13, 2022, episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Jenelle joined stars Briana DeJesus and Jade Cline for a party that celebrated the Florida native’s victory in court against Kailyn Lowry.

Jenelle shared an update about the status of her relationship with her husband, David Eason, during the celebration. “Life’s been good, well not really,” she said. “Me and David, we haven’t been getting along lately. I mean, it’s just on and off and it’s just the fact that — I don’t care if I share this with any of you either — it’s just the fact that he doesn’t — which everyone knows — he doesn’t have a job and I’m sitting here providing for everyone for years and it’s still the same way.”

“I’m so fed up and I’ve been giving him the cold shoulder, not talking to him,” she continued. “We text to talk now and he’ll be on the other side of my land in his shop. [Ensley’s] home with me 24/7 — she’s not in daycare so she’s with me all the time — and I’ve told David, ‘I need a break.'”

Jenelle Evans Returns to ‘Teen Mom’ in 2024

It was revealed in May 2024 that Jenelle will appear on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter again.

“I think it’ll be good to have a fresh start,” she said in a teaser clip released on May 8, 2024.

Her franchise comeback is being labeled as a “special appearance,” and she is expected to unpack the early stages of her split from David during season 2 of the spinoff.

Jenelle made her special appearance on the franchise after In Touch previously confirmed that she will not appear in a full-time capacity despite being in talks with the network in August 2022.

“I alone decided to decline the terms within the agreement to pursue and further other career choices,” Jenelle said via her manager, August Keen. “Based on the terms, it would have not aligned with my current opportunities.”

“No hard feelings. I appreciate MTV and the producers for including me, nothing but great vibes to the girls,” she added. 

August went on to tease that the former reality star “has a new dynamic series in development,” though she is “keeping the concept under wraps for now.”

“The show is going to a major network,” he added of Jenelle’s decision to leave MTV.

News of the former Teen Mom star’s new series was revealed just hours after the North Carolina native teased her project during an Instagram Story Q&A. “Can’t give details away, but you will find out soon,” Jenelle shared with an upside down smiley face after a fan asked which network was talking to her about her own show.

While details on her new series remain unknown and it hasn’t come out as of May 2024, the mother of three opened up about her current status with MTV in a June 2023 TikTok video.

“When they invite you back but you make more on [OnlyFans] than what [MTV] paid you,” text over a video of a topless Jenelle read. However, after one fan commented telling the North Carolina native to “just do one more season,” Jenelle responded saying, “They don’t want me.”

“They did invite me back, but I said ‘no.’ They want me as a ‘guest’ only,” she added. “And they don’t want to negotiate.”

When Was Jenelle Evans Fired From ‘Teen Mom’?

The Read Between the Lines author – who made her MTV debut on season 2 of 16 & Pregnant in 2010 when she was pregnant with her eldest son, Jace – made her departure from the network in 2019 after nine seasons. 

“We have stopped filming with Jenelle Eason as of April 6, 2019, and have no plans to cover her story in the upcoming season,” MTV shared with Us Weekly that May.
