‘Teen Mom’ Alum Farrah Abraham Reveals Why She Wasn’t Speaking to Sophia’s Dad When He Died

Former Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham recently revealed why she and Derek Underwood, the father of her daughter, Sophia, weren’t speaking when he died.

Abraham, 35, was a guest on the We Need to Talk with Paul C. Brunson podcast on Thursday, August 20, and was asked about her relationship with Underwood.

The reality star said that she was in love with Underwood while they were together, but admitted that it was also “scary.”

“It felt even more scary when I lost him,” Abraham continued.

She added that she felt as though the two “gravitated toward each other” because they both had “mother issues.” Abraham and her mom, Debra Danielsen, famously feuded throughout much of her time on the 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom franchise.

Underwood’s alleged issues with his own mom weren’t revealed, but Abraham revealed that his mom filed a lawsuit against her father while the two were dating.

“We were caught having sex, but my dad didn’t know what the hell was going on, and it was like 2 a.m. in the morning,” she explained. “So, my dad hit whoever he thought was on his daughter, and I get it.”

Abraham shared that she understood why her father was upset.

“[Derek] shouldn’t have been sneaking in and getting me to lie all the time for him, so yeah, that’s really why I wasn’t talking to him when he passed away in a car accident,” she said.

Underwood died in December 2008, two months before Abraham gave birth to Sophia.

Despite Abraham filming 16 and Pregnant at the time, Underwood’s death wasn’t addressed in her episode. He never appeared on camera, but his voice was heard during a phone conversation with Abraham.

She later opened up about Underwood’s death on Teen Mom, including the difficulty she had coping with the loss of Sophia’s father.
