Sister Wives star Meri Brown shared a rare update about her and ex-husband Kody Brown’s child, Leon Brown, after they stepped out of the spotlight.
“They, by their choice, have made a decision to not be super public,” Meri, 53, told People about Leon – who uses they/them pronouns – in an interview published on Thursday, December 12. “So I don’t talk about them so much.”
Meri added that whatever Leon, 29, wants “to put on social media is what people get to know about them.”
While the TLC personality respected her child’s privacy by not sharing too many details, she assured fans that they “talk often.” Meri concluded, “They’re doing well.”
Leon – who used to frequently appear on Sister Wives – publicly came out as transgender in 2022, and they penned a thoughtful social media post about the decision.
“Someone recently told me that I didn’t have to have all of my s–t figured out in order for me to share myself with the world. So here’s me, definitely not having almost any of my s–t figured out, to let you know that I am trans,” they wrote at the time. “My name is Leon or Leo (i love both) and my pronouns are they/them.”
After noting that they knew they weren’t a girl from a young age, Leon said they were “finally ready to share my favorite self with the world.” They continued, “And that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans and unapologetic.”
“Being queer & trans are definitely some of my favorite parts of myself. and yet, there are so many things that I am learning to love about myself through this process,” Leon added. “Here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person I am, to be my favorite self in all contexts.”
Shortly after Leon made the announcement, Meri showed support for her child by sharing the news on her Instagram Stories and captioning the post, “You are my sunshine.”
Meri continued to show her support in March 2023 by praising Leon on International Transgender Day of Visibility. “I see you! I love you! I got you!” Meri captioned a photo of Leon and their partner, Audrey Kriss, smiling via her Instagram Stories.

The matriarch also recently shared insight into Leon’s relationship with Kody, 55, while speaking toUs Weekly on Wednesday, December 11. “I know that [Kody and Leon] talk on occasion, but I know that Kody has been struggling with many of his relationships with his kids, and I hope that they can figure that out,” she said, referencing her ex’s ongoing estrangement with several of his older kids. “I think there’s got to be a lot of conversations and healing to make that happen.”
Meri continued to reflect on Kody’s issues with his kids, noting that “any healing takes time and it takes both parties.” She added, “So that’s going to be something he’s going to have to deal with on an individual basis with anybody he wants to heal relationships.”
Meri and Kody got married in 1990, though they legally divorced in 2014 so that he could wed Robyn Brown and adopt her three children from a previous relationship. The former couple remained in a spiritual marriage until they confirmed their split in a joint statement in January 2023.
