Sister Wives star Kody Brown opened up about his feelings toward his ex-wife Janelle Brown, and the reality TV star said that out of all three of his ex-wives, his connection to Janelle was one he still wondered about.

“I kind of look at Meri [Brown] still as a friend,” Kody, 55, began in a video clip shared by TLC via Instagram on February 8. “I’m sure both of us, mutually, will get back to that place. I have hope that Meri and I would be friends.”

The dad of 18 continued, “I hear about Christine [Brown] falling in love and getting married and stuff like this, and I’m, like, going, ‘Well, good on Christine.’ Janelle was a different story. I always thought … I just felt like Janelle and I could have worked it out.”

Robyn Brown is Kody’s only remaining wife after partaking in the polygamist lifestyle for years. Christine, 52, was the first of Kody’s wives to leave and she announced her decision in November 2021.

“After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” Christine wrote in a statement via Instagram at the time. “We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family. With Love, Christine Brown.”

Janelle, 55, followed Christine just a little over a year later in December 2022. In Touch exclusively revealed the news at the time.

“Janelle is a strong independent woman and realized she can do it on her own,” a source revealed before adding that the mom of 6 felt that she “outgrew” Kody.

He confirmed the news days later when he told cameras, “I am separated from Janelle, and I am divorced from Christine.”

Meri, 53, was the last to leave when she and Kody announced their separation in a joint statement in January 2023.

“In light of a recent unapproved press release, we feel compelled to share our own truth, in our own way and in our own timing,” the former couple wrote via Instagram shortly after the news of their split broke. “After more than a decade of working on our relationship in our own unique ways, we have made the decision to permanently terminate our marriage relationship.”

During the Sister Wives episode on February 2, Kody spoke about Meri’s decision to ask the church for a “spiritual release” from her marriage and said that he felt like he and Janelle had a different relationship.

“I didn’t feel like I needed a spiritual divorce from Meri, and I didn’t feel like I needed a spiritual divorce from Christine [Brown],” Kody told producers during a one-on-one interview. “I don’t know if there’s some kind of karmic connection that Janelle and I are obligated to still.”

However, during that same episode Janelle revealed that she was potentially interested in seeking out a “spiritual release “ from Kody.

“I know Meri has just recently gotten a release like what we call a release, which is a divorce. And it’s made me think, ‘Huh, I kind of like the idea of getting a spiritual release.’ But I don’t even know who to call,” Janelle explained.
