Shannon K.’s father shared these words of wisdom with her when she was a young girl. Growing up, she watched her father forge a career for himself in the music industry, introducing her to one of her life’s greatest passions.

“When I started my career in the West, the major struggle was to fight against racial discrimination at every step of the way. For me it was surely hard to stand up for myself as a young brown woman and have people listen to what I have to say.”

However, through perseverance, patience, and diligent hard work, Shannon K. overcame these challenges and became a renowned, successful musical artist in her own right. Rather than immediately trying to sign with a label, she embarked on her musical journey as an independent artist, giving her more hands-on control of her image and career.

This made all the difference, as Shannon K. achieved widespread critical success on her terms, leading to more significant opportunities.

The release of her debut single, “A Long Time ft.
