On Monday, June 1, the tennis legend, 44, announced she was heading back to the court in a video shared to X which she captioned, “Good news travels fast.”
In the clip, Williams’ duffle bag can be sitting on a bench at the side of a tennis court. Phone notifications can be heard going off repeatedly alerting the owner of several text messages coming in before it starts ringing. Williams can then be seen walking toward the bench with a tennis racket in hand as she says, “I’ve gotta change my number.”
At the end of the video, text pops up on the screen reading, “Guess everybody heard the good news.”
“New month. New week. Serena is back on a tennis court. June really understood the assignment,” one X user wrote.
Another added, “She really is the Beyoncé of tennis. The way she just drops a teaser like that????? THAT’S MOTHER RIGHT THEREEEE.”

Rumors began swirling late last year that the Grand Slam champion would be making a comeback after she re-entered the anti-doping testing pool, a requirement for players hoping to compete again.
Then, last week, the Served podcast reported that Williams applied for a special entry into the doubles tournament at London’s Queen’s Club, where she would team up with 19 year old Canadian tennis star Victoria Mboko. The tournament begins in 11 days.
Williams stepped away from the sport after the 2022 U.S. Open. She explained that she wanted to focus on expanding her family and pursuing opportunities beyond the court. The following year, she welcomed her second daughter, Adira, with husbandAlexis Ohanian in 2023. The couple had previously welcomed daughter Alexis in 2017.
