Selena Gomez‘s lawyer had a scathing response to the “fraud” lawsuit against the star and her mother, Mandy Teefey. The lawsuit claimed the duo and their former business partner Daniella Pierson duped investors of their mental health charity Wondermind.

“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally,” Gomez’s attorney in the case, Mathew S. Rosengart, said in a statement to Page Six.

He vowed to “vigorously defend these false allegations” and stated they “indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims” against the Only Murders In The Building star.

The federal lawsuit was filed by investor entities Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind SPV LLC. The two companies claim that the founders misrepresented that the startup “had the infrastructure, leadership, and resources necessary for the company to launch into a profitable, one-of-its-kind mental health and wellness platform.”

The “Lose You To Love Me” singer was accused in the filing of “ignoring” her contractual obligation to “actively build the company as its head of marketing” using her star power.

The investors, who allegedly funneled nearly $1.2 million into the startup, claim they were kept in the dark as Wondermind “quietly collapsed around them” and learned about the business’s struggles via a story in The Cut.

The article showed that “Wondermind had no plan for its future – much less a plan for achieving a multi-billion dollar valuation,” the lawsuit writers.

The filing also claims that Wondermind was supposed to partner with JPMorgan and Fidelity to provide mental health services to employees, but this never materialized. Investors also allege that they were promised an app, celebrity profiles, and advertising arrangements, but these were also never realized.

Forbes reported last May that the company was struggling to pay its employees, but a source told People that Gomez “invested more money as she’s not involved in the day-to-day operations.”

The source added that “Selena has invested millions of dollars over the years into Wondermind to support her mother and their shared passion for mental health, including when she was alerted about the most recent financial setback.”

Neither Gomez nor Teefey has publicly commented about the lawsuit. In a statement to The New York Times, former co-CEO Pierson “categorically” denied the allegations.
