Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison release date has been officially revealed.

According to the Bureau of Prisons website, Diddy, 55, is scheduled for release on May 8, 2028. He is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) but could be transferred to another facility to serve out the remainder of his sentence.

Diddy has been behind bars since September 2024, following his arrest on charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, sex trafficking, and racketeering conspiracy. The rapper and entrepreneur has consistently pleaded not guilty to all charges, denying any wrongdoing.

On July 2, 2025, a jury found Diddy guilty on two counts of transportation, while acquitting him of the other charges. Three months later, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him to 50 months in prison, or just over four years. The time Diddy has already served at MDC will count toward his sentence. In addition, the judge imposed a $500,000 fine and mandated five years of supervised release following his prison term.

In the days leading up to his sentencing on October 3, Diddy’s legal team requested a significantly lighter sentence. His lawyers asked for 14 months behind bars, followed by supervised release including mandatory drug treatment, individual therapy, and group therapy. They argued that Diddy “has been adequately punished by serving 13 months in the terrible conditions” at MDC. According to the attorneys, these conditions included constant suicide watch—with security checking on him every two hours—even during sleep, limited access to clean water, and a lack of healthy or edible food.

Earlier this month, Diddy’s attorney Alexandra Shapiro filed a notice of appeal, signaling that the legal team plans to challenge both the conviction and the sentence. While the appeal notice did not detail the grounds, his lawyers have previously argued that the statute under which Diddy was charged, the Mann Act, should not apply in this case.

Adding to the drama, Diddy’s longtime friend Charlucci Finney claimed the music mogul experienced a terrifying incident while incarcerated. “He woke up with a knife to his throat,” Finney told the Daily Mail on October 22. “I don’t know whether he fought him off or the guards came, I just know that it happened.” Finney suggested the attack may have been intended to intimidate Diddy rather than harm him, noting, “If this guy had wanted to harm him, Sean would have been harmed. It would only take a second to cut his throat with a weapon and kill him.”
