Rose McGowan has hit out at the industry following the death of her fellow Scream franchise alum, Hayden Panettiere.

“Rest in Power,” the actress wrote Friday on top of an Instagram video dedicated to Panettiere and featuring a clip of the ocean.

But she had a message for the industry and people who want their kids to become famous.

“Don’t put kids in show business,” the Charmed star added. “None of this is normal. May her spirit be free of those who orchestrated.”

Both actresses appeared in separate films in the Scream franchise. McGowan appeared in the 1996 Wes Craven original, while Panettiere appeared in both 2011’s Scream 4 and 2023’s Scream VI.

McGowan is one of many women to call out the industry after Panettiere passed away at just 36, joining Melissa Gilbert, Anna Paquin and Alexa PenaVega in paying tribute to the Heroes star.

“It’s not a coincidence that so many former, specifically pre-sexualized female, child ‘stars’ have profoundly sad lives and untimely ends,” former child actor Paquin wrote on Instagram. “We were not as protected by the ‘systems’ that look great on paper, as we are supposed to be.

Many followers agreed with McGowan’s statement. “Exactly. Hayden was just a child when she entered this world, and she should never have been expected to bear the consequences of decisions she couldn’t comprehend,” one user wrote in response.

McGowan has been an outspoken voice against the seedy side of Hollywood for nearly a decade. She frequently hit out at Hollywood’s silence when it comes to believing women during the Harvey Weinstein sex scandal.

“Agents, managers, Directors, casting agents, producers, distributors, SAG, DGA, PGA, Studio heads, Network = 30 year cover up,” she wrote on social media in 2017, per Metro.

She also encouraged women to: “Name it, shame it, call it out. Join me, join all of us as we amplify each others’ voices and we do what is right for us and our for sisters and for this planet.”
