Law enforcement is preparing to return Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home to her family as the search for the missing 84-year-old enters its fourth week, sources told NBC News in a Wednesday, February 25 report.
Nancy — the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie — was reported missing on February 1. Her Tucson-area residence has remained a focal point of the investigation, with officials previously collecting DNA and other evidence. Two federal law enforcement sources told the outlet that recent activity at the property is tied to efforts to turn the home back over to the family, as investigators no longer believe it must remain sealed as a crime scene.
More than 23,000 tips have poured into the FBI hotline, including 750 in just 12 hours after Savannah, 54, publicly offered a $1 million reward for her mother’s safe return.

“She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in an interview with NBC’s Liz Kreutz that aired on Today on Wednesday.
Nancy was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on January 31 after dinner at her daughter Annie’s home. She was reported missing the next morning when she didn’t join a virtual church service with friends.
Authorities have not identified a suspect, though the FBI previously released Nest camera images showing a masked, armed individual outside her home. Mixed DNA samples recovered from the property are still undergoing forensic analysis.
