Meghan Markle revealed that she doesn’t identify as a “trad wife” or “influencer” while speaking out ahead of the release of With Love, Meghan, her new cooking show debuting on Netflix in which she also shares gardening and hosting tips.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, addressed misconceptions about herself in a new interview, noting that she doesn’t necessarily consider herself to be a “traditional wife.”

The cultural “trad wife” trend essentially rejects the perspective of the modern feminist and celebrates couples who promote ultra-traditional gender roles with men as the provider and head of the household and women who stay home to cook, clean and care for the children.

“I like being able to do a hybrid,” Meghan shared with People, revealing that Chinese food delivery is a favorite for her family, “but even when I get takeout, I will try to plate it beautifully.”

Meghan said that she doesn’t strive for perfection but rather to be her personal best, despite her show’s flawless imagery. “The series is about doing what you can do,” she added, “and doing it with love.”

Although the former Suits star has more than 2 million followers and counting on Instagram, Meghan noted that she does not see herself as an influencer either, instead “as an entrepreneur and a female founder, and if the brand ends up influential, then that’s great.”

“When I was last on social media, Boomerang was the thing,” she said about her return to Instagram in January after a five-year hiatus. “Instagram Stories didn’t even exist. So it’s been a minute.”

Meghan revealed a friend actually helped her figure out the name of her upcoming show, which is filmed at an $8 million farmhouse not too far away from where she and husband Prince Harry live in Montecito, California. She said it’s been a passion project she takes great pride in.

“Their takeaway was they were so happy to see me as myself,” Meghan admitted. “[My friend] said, ‘It’s like your love letter to all the things you’ve loved to do, and if you’re signing off a love letter, it’s With love, Meghan.’ It felt right, and I loved that my friend helped create it.”

“It feels as though we’re just spending time together, which is what it ended up being,” the royal continued while addressing the crew’s presence on the series. “I’d make a recipe and say, ‘Everyone try this,’ and there are certain dishes where you just watch everyone flock in. I’d say, ‘We’ve run out of spoons!’ It ended up feeling so communal, and that’s the spirit of the show.”

One crew member remembered how Meghan’s kids, 5-year-old son Archie and 3-year-old daughter Lilibet, would run up to their mom on set, telling the outlet, “She was super attentive and doting on them. We would give them headphones so they could listen to audio.”

Meghan added, “I hope that when they get old enough, they feel really proud that they were part of the beginning of this with me.”

With Love, Meghan not only gives a glimpse at her domestic skills, but also spotlights her own product line, which will be available on asever.com.

Looking ahead, she will be launching a new podcast with Lemonada Media this spring.
