Matt Lauer’s First Wife Nancy Alspaugh Claims Her Ex Is Keeping a “Very Low Profile”

Don’t expect Matt Lauer to be making a comeback anytime soon. The disgraced Today Show host has cut off all contact with friends and loved ones, according to his ex-wife Nancy Alspaugh, following those disturbing sexual misconduct allegations last year.

“We have been close friends for years, and before it all came out he told me not to believe it,” Nancy, who was married to Matt from 1981 to 1988 told Radar Online. “He’s keeping a very low profile.”

She continued, “This is his whole life, I’m sure he is devastated.” When news first broke of Matt’s termination, Nancy, 62, defended the TV host. “He’s been the best person that’s ever held that job,” she told Entertainment Tonight, “and I couldn’t imagine that anything that he would have done — that would have been so out of character for him — that would have caused that reaction.”

However, she is remaining confident that Matt, 60, will resurface sooner or later. “I’m sure he’ll reach out to me, but I’m letting him have his private time,” she added. While Nancy is 100 percent behind her ex-husband, Matt’s current wife Annette Roque is gearing up for a multi-million dollar divorce. The couple share sons Jack and Thijs and daughter Romy and have been married since 1998.

“Annette didn’t pull the trigger [on legal action] right away because of the kids, but she could no longer separate rumor from fact when it came to his sexual misdeeds and abuse of power. She’s done with him,” a source told In Touch exclusively earlier this year. “A divorce announcement should be coming any day now.”

And it’s sure to be one of the most expensive divorces in Hollywood history. Before he was fired, Matt was making $25 million per year on the morning talk show and he has an extensive real estate portfolio, which includes a $35 million estate in the Hamptons and a $6 million NYC apartment. Plus, Annette will also be going after primary custody of the couple’s three kids. “[She] will ask for primary custody, allowing Matt partial custody because he has been a great father to his kids,” the source explained.
