Why didn’t we think of this?! Just days after Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced the birth of their third child, a daughter, via surrogate, Kim revealed the baby’s name on her website. Meet Chicago West!
According to TMZ, the baby — who is named for Kanye’s hometown — is already going by “Chi” (pronounced “Shy”) by the family. We knew that North and Saint would’ve been tough acts to follow — but we’re totally in love with the moniker!
The name shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of Kanye, since he’s made his love of his hometown well known over the years. Perhaps it pays the biggest homage to the city in “Homecoming,” in which he personifies Chicago as a girl — which may be where he found his inspiration.
In the first verse, he raps, “I met this girl when I was three years old/And what I loved most, she had so much soul. She siad, ‘Excuse me, lil homie, I know you don’t know me, but my name is Windy and I like to blow trees.’ And from that point I never blow her/N—– come from out of town I like to show her off. They like to act tought, she like to tore ‘em off.”
In the same song, he gushes, “I told her in my heart is where she’ll always be,” “Every interview I’m representin’ you, making you proud/Reach for the stars, so if you fall, you land on a cloud. Jump in the crowd, spark your lighters, wave ‘em around/If you don’t know by now, I’m talking ‘bout Chi-Town!”
