Josh Duggar‘s dorm at his federal prison in Texas reportedly went on a hunger strike after the inmates’ recreational time was taken away as a punishment over contraband.

“The interim warden has shut down recreational time ‘indefinitely’ as mass punishment for contraband. It’s been shut down for over a week,” a source told The U.S. Sun on Tuesday, March 11.

“They’ve been shaking down all of the dorms and not letting people outside, it’s not good,” the source continued.

“Two dorms, including Josh’s, went on a hunger strike Monday morning in protest,” the insider claimed. “The two dorms, which hold several hundred inmates, didn’t go to chow. They’re not eating until they get rec back.”

A representative from FCI Seagoville told In Touch on Wednesday, March 12, “There are no restrictions to inmate recreation, and no inmates currently refusing to eat.”

The U.S. Sun reported that FCI Seagoville inmates get outdoor recreation time twice a day, once in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Prisoners have access to pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a track and horseshoes as activities to pass the time.

Duggar, 37, began serving his 151-month prison sentence on child pornography charges in June 2022. His release date was set for August 2032, but it was extended by two months to October 2032 due to Duggar allegedly possessing a cell phone while serving his sentence in February 2023.

The former 19 Kids and Counting star was arrested in April 2021 after he “allegedly used the internet to download child sexual abuse material,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Arkansas shared in a press release at the time. “Duggar allegedly possessed this material, some of which depicts the sexual abuse of children under the age of 12, in May 2019.”

Duggar went on trial in November 2021 and was found guilty by a federal jury on one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography on December 9, 2021. The latter charge was dropped at his sentencing hearing on May 25, 2022.

While in prison, the former TLC star has had access to three meals a day as well as the ability to purchase items through the prison’s commissary shopping list. He has a wide selection of meats, cheeses, beans, soup, snacks and candy bars that can be purchased by himself or others in addition to what food the prison serves daily.

For his third Thanksgiving behind bars, In Touch exclusively revealed what was on the dinner menu for the convicted sex offender in November 2024.

FCI Seagoville offered the inmates roasted turkey and glazed ham for the entrée. Vegetarians had the option of a veggie lasagna that consisted of dirty rice, soybeans and kidney beans. Duggar also had an array of side dishes, including cornbread dressing with turkey gravy, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and dinner rolls. As for dessert, the inmates were offered assorted pies.

Photos of Duggar taken in the prison yard in November 2024 showed him wearing designer sunglasses and sneakers, and a source exclusively told In Touch that it was because his parents, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, were helping their son out financially.

“Truth is, Josh has been rescued by his folks so many times and he probably thinks he deserves the finer things,” the source said on December 17, 2024. “Jim Bob and Michelle are sick with worry and Josh is guilting them even more into sending him cash so he can buy the luxuries that would otherwise be unavailable to him and live in style.”
