Jay & Pamela’s Jay and Pamela Open Up About Sex as a Disabled Couple
Jay & Pamela’s Jay Manuel and Pamela Chavez got real about their sex life as a couple living with brittle bone disease, which makes their bones more prone to breaking.
“Just because we’re disabled, does not mean we don’t have a sex life,” Pamela, 30, told cameras in a teaser for the Tuesday, April 1, episode.
In a cheeky response, Jay, 28, said sex was how he planned to “fix her scoliosis.”
The couple, who met online, discussed other disabled couples who were less knowledgeable about sex and unsure how to use condoms. They related to this, sharing how their own parents never gave them sex talks, leaving them to learn mostly through their own research.
“Before they knew you were trans, my mom was worried about me getting pregnant,” Pamela explained. “No for real, like she was like, ‘Like y’all moving in together, and y’all not married,’ and she’s like, ‘Things can happen.’”
Jay said that was a benefit to their relationship as they would’ve had “some unplanned pregnancy.” He added, “I can’t be in the Olympics because I don’t got no swimmers.”
Later in the episode, Jay and Pamela spoke at a sex conference, sharing their experiences on a larger platform.
“I was personally nervous … what if I mess up,” Jay told the crowd, before Pamela cut in and said, “You didn’t mess up.”

This wasn’t the first time Jay and Pamela, who were both born with brittle bone disease, otherwise known as osteogenesis imperfecta type 3 (OI), have joked about their sex life.
“How does sex work for a couple that breaks bones so easily?” a producer from the reality series Jay & Pamela asked the couple in a clip shared by TLC’s official Instagram page on March 15. “Do you have to be extra careful?”
Jay replied by saying, “Careful isn’t even in the room with us when we’re having sex. I thought it would be. I thought we were going to be cautious when having sex, but we just take a risk. Risk it for a biscuit.”
Pamela jokingly mocked Jay and said, “And then the next day, you’re like, ‘My back hurts.”
OI is an inherited disorder that can be passed on by one or both parents, and it’s present at birth, according to John Hopkins Medicine. The site also explained that the symptoms in babies vary from each child. Those born with the disease “may have soft bones that break (fracture) easily, bones that are not formed normally, and other problems.”
Although the show heavily focused on their relationship as two people born with osteogenesis imperfecta type 3, Jay also told TLC viewers about his identity as a transgender man.
“Something a lot of people don’t know about me is I am a transgender man. Once I started to realize that I was actually a guy, was probably somewhere in high school,” he explained during the season 1 premiere, which aired on March 4, 2025. “I just didn’t have the words to articulate how I felt. I’ve been out to my family for over five years now and I’m just really grateful that I have, you know, a great partner and my parents are accepting off the bat.”
