Meghan Markle and Prince Harry quietly dated for one year before taking their relationship public in 2017. The former Suits actress and royal’s romance made headlines as fans inquired information about the who, what, when, where and why about their relationship, including how they met in the first place.
In Touch takes a look back at Meghan and Harry’s love story ahead of the premiere of the family matriarch’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
How Did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Meet?
While announcing their engagement in November 2017, Meghan and Harry subtly gushed about the origin of their love story.
“Ah, we first met — we were introduced actually by a mutual friend,” Harry told the BBC at the time in a joint interview next to his then-fiancée. Harry didn’t elaborate further after Meghan chimed in, “We should probably protect her privacy.”
“It was definitely a set-up. It was a blind date. I didn’t know much about him and so the only thing I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was, I had one question, I said, ‘Was he nice?’” the “Archetypes” podcast host continued in a later part of the interview.

Their revelation caused fans to speculate how Meghan and Harry crossed paths, with names including fashion designer Misha Nonoo and Harry’s childhood friend Violet von Westenholz being considered for who set them up.
In January 2018, E! News confirmed that Violet set the couple up after Harry was looking for love, but was having trouble finding a compatible partner in the dating world.
“It’s hard enough finding someone new to date. He can hardly go on Tinder or a dating app like normal people, but to meet someone that you actually connect with, that was proving to be almost impossible,” a source told the outlet at the time. “It was something he had confided in his closest friends about; he was ready to meet someone but it was so hard to actually find the right person.”
That said, Harry told Violet about his unsuccessful love life, and lucky for him, his pal was recently connected with Meghan at the time.
“Meghan had been a part of the London social scene for a while and had slotted into the high society set really easily,” the source explained to the publication. “And so when Harry told Violet he was having trouble finding someone, Violet said she might just have the perfect girl for him.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Support Each Other’s Career
In March 2025, Meghan gave rare details about the early stages of her relationship with Harry and admitted that he admired and supported her creative side.
“Well, I loved The Tig, but I certainly love my husband more,” Meghan told People of her former blog that shut down in 2017 following her public romance with Harry and respecting the privacy of the royal family. “So, that was a choice I made at the time, and I wouldn’t change that for a second.”
She later continued, “My husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me.”
Meghan adapted to the life of a royal for a few years before she and Harry made the collective decision to take a step back from their duties. In 2020, the duo packed up and moved to Montecito, California, with their son, Archie. Their daughter, Lilibet, was born the following year.
Every year, the Dater’s Handbook actress supports the Invictus Games, an international sporting competition for injured and sick veterans and servicepeople, that Harry founded in 2014.
On the other hand, the family patriarch also supports Meghan and will make a cameo in With Love, Meghan. The lifestyle and cooking series premieres on the streaming service on March 4, 2025.
