Giuliani was elected Mayor of New York City in 1993, where he focused on cracking down on organized crime and financial crime. Following the deadly terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center on September 11 in 2001, he was praised for how he communicated with the public and led rescue efforts.
However, his career was later marred by his association with spreading misinformation regarding the 2020 presidential election, in which Joe Biden beat Donald Trump. According to NBC News, his license to practice law was suspended in New York in 2021 for allegedly spreading lies about voter fraud. In 2024, he was disbarred in New York and Washington, D.C., per NBC News.
Following the news of Giuliani’s hospitalization, President Trump described his former attorney as a “True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR” in a post shared on Truth Social on Sunday, May 3.
