Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Vin Diesel's Feud Explained
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel have had many ups and downs through the years as part of their infamous feud, which reportedly began while the two were costarring in the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Nearly one decade later, Vin seemingly stirred up their beef — or at least brought the feud back to everyone’s attention — with a simple two-word comment at the 2025 Golden Globes. But what exactly is going on between the action stars?
When Did Dwayne Johnson’s Feud With Vin Diesel Start?
Dwayne and Vin’s feud seemingly began back in 2016 during the filming of The Fate of the Furious. In a long, since-deleted Instagram post in August 2016, The Rock appeared to throw shade at some of his male costars. Though he did not mention Vin by name, many people speculated that the Jumanji actor was referencing the Pacifier star.
“There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one,” Dwayne wrote. “My female costars are always amazing and I love’em. My male costars, however, are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t.”
He continued, “The ones that don’t are too chicken s–t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you’re right.”
That same month, a source told People that Vin and Dwayne had been having trouble on set “for months.”
“Vin has been having problems with The Rock because The Rock keeps showing up late for production,” the insider said. “Sometimes he doesn’t show up at all, and he’s delaying the production.”
Are Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel Still Feuding?
In 2017, Vin suggested that the feud rumors were untrue by telling USA Today, “I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way. I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don’t think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne.”

Vin also told Men’s Health in July 2021 that he used “tough love” on The Fast and the Furious franchise, which Dwayne seemed to disagree with. The Red One actor told Vanity Fair in October 2021, “One part of me feels like there’s no way I would dignify any of that bulls–t with an answer. … If I feel that there’s some things that need to be squared away and handled and taken care of, then I do it. And it’s just that simple. So when I read that, just like everybody else, I laughed.”
Dwayne also revealed that he and Vin had a meeting after his 2016 Instagram post where they reached a truce of sorts. “I wouldn’t call it a peaceful meeting. I would call it a meeting of clarity,” he told the outlet. “He and I had a good chat in my trailer, and it was out of that chat that it really became just crystal clear that we are two separate ends of the spectrum. And agreed to leave it there.”
Though Dwayne left the Fast and the Furious franchise in 2021, he made a cameo in Fast X in May 2023 and later confirmed his return with the Luke Hobbs spinoff.
“Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we’ve been like brothers for years, and despite our differences, when you lead with — number one, resolve — but also you think about the future and plans that are much bigger than ourselves,” he said in a June 2023 announcement video.
What Happened Between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel at the 2025 Golden Globes?
Vin got fans talking about his feud with Dwayne once again after the Guardians of the Galaxy star gave his former costar a shout-out on stage. Before Vin presented the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, he looked over at Dwayne in the audience and flashed him a sly smile before adding a cheeky, “Hey, Dwayne.” Dwayne simply smiled back at Vin as the crowd laughed, remembering their history.
