Derick Dillard Wants Fans to ‘Get Over’ His Transphobic Comments About Jazz Jennings

He’s tired of the backlash. Derick Dillard told fans to “get over” his controversial comments about Jazz Jennings while taking to Twitter, claiming that he has nothing but respect for the transgender star. The Counting On alum previously found himself in hot water after commenting about the reality TV personality online and now, he’s hoping to clear the air.

“Oh get over it already,” Jill Duggar’s husband, 30 tweeted. “Any comments were directed @TLC and the parents. I love @JazzJennings__ . We have got to protect children!” Not long after, several of his followers were sounding off in the comment section.

“If you love Ms. Jennings, and her family, stop linking them to your tweets. I would suspect they lack any interest in you,” one wrote. “That is their family and household to run as they see fit. No law was broken, no abuses were committed.”

As you may recall, Derick faced serious scrutiny after posting a comment about the 18 year old via Twitter back in 2017. “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality,” he wrote while replying to TLC’s promotional tweet about the show I Am Jazz. “‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.”

Derick later tried to set the record straight about his views, but he didn’t use the correct pronoun, which didn’t sit well with fans. “I want to be clear. I have nothing against him. I only have issue with the words and definitions being propagated here,” he wrote.

Afterwards, TLC issued a statement of their own revealing they were no longer working with Derick. “We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months and the network has no plans to feature him in the future,” the statement read. “We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network. TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so.”

In 2018, Jazz also shared her thoughts about the ordeal during a candid interview. “Honestly, I don’t give Derick any of my attention,” she told Us Weekly. “I don’t even read the tweets that he sends out anymore because I just don’t care. You know? He can say whatever. I think he’s doing it for attention.”
