NBC has shown their support for Today anchor Savannah Guthrie since her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing — and now they may consider new avenues.
Journalist Rob Shuter reported in a Monday, February 9, post on his Naughty But Nice Substack that a Dateline episode covering Nancy’s disappearance could be considered.
“If it’s done, it would be respectful, fact-based, and approved at the highest levels,” a source said. “And only if Savannah is comfortable.”
“The last thing NBC wants is to look like it’s profiting off Savannah’s pain,” another source said. “That would be unforgivable.”
“This is not just another Dateline story,” a senior source explained. “This is one of our own.”

Overall, the hope is to ensure that Nancy — who has been missing since February 1 — returns home safely. “Silence doesn’t help anyone,” a source said. “If coverage helps find answers, that matters.”
Nancy’s whereabouts remain unknown as the situation is being treated as a possible abduction.
During a press conference held February 5, authorities revealed that they are taking one of the ransom notes related to Nancy’s disappearance very seriously.
Two deadlines were given for their demands. The first deadline, which has now passed, was at 5 p.m. on February 5. A second deadline is February 9 if the initial demand is not met. However, “no proof of life” for Nancy has been provided.
Savannah and her family said in an emotional plea via her Instagram on February 7 that they are willing to pay for Nancy’s return.

Nancy is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes. While it’s been said that Nancy does not live with any cognitive issues, her life could be in danger if she does not take her medication daily, per authorities.
The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy “and or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”
