Christine Brown‘s child support lawsuit against ex Kody Brown has been labeled a Track 3 “significant custody dispute,” In Touch can confirm.

The Sister Wives stars, who separated in 2021, virtually appeared in court on December 18 and completed their disclosures, according to court documents obtained by In Touch. The paperwork stated that the court ruled the lawsuit as a Track 1 and 3 case.

While the Utah State Court defines Track 1 as a “standard” dispute, Track 3 is deemed a “significant custody dispute track.”

“This category includes cases with significant custody disputes, including custody disputes involving allegations of child abuse or domestic violence,” according to the Utah State Court.

During their meeting, which is set for May 21, 2025, Christine, 52, and Kody, 55, will dispute “whether a custody evaluation is necessary” and “whether appointment of a private guardian ad litem is necessary, and if so, the scope of the appointment and apportionment of costs.”

Christine sued Kody for child support and custody of their 14-year-old daughter, Truely, on September 16. In the legal filing obtained by In Touch, Christine requested paternity over her daughter, sharing that Kody is not listed as Truely’s father on her birth certificate.

The family matriarch also requested the court grant her domestic relations injunction, which orders both involved parties from harassing each other in person or virtually, committing domestic violence or intervening with membership service.

In addition to Truely, Kody and Christine share adult kids Mykelti, Aspyn, Gwendlyn, Ysabel and Paedon.

Kody legally responded to Christine’s lawsuit by hiring a Utah lawyer, who appeared in court on behalf of the TLC star on October 13, according to court documents viewed by In Touch. Ten days later, Kody and his attorney filed a counterclaim and kept the details private to the public as the documents remain sealed.

Christine’s split from Kody was the first of many as he and Janelle Brown called it quits in December 2022. His spiritual and formerly legal marriage with Meri Brown ended one month later.

After Christine and Kody went their separate ways, she relocated to Utah with Truely.
In October 2022, a source exclusively told In Touch that Kody was “basically not in Truely’s life.”

“Kody won’t go anywhere. Christine has to accommodate Kody. He’s still paranoid about COVID and everything else,” the insider shared. “So, if Christine is not choosing to do the transporting and making it happen — nor would she put Truely through any of this stress — then Kody won’t have a relationship with Truely. He would have to leave his nest to see his daughter.”

Christine opened up about her decision to move with Truely during an October 2023 episode of Sister Wives, admitting it was the “best choice” for them.

“When I lived in Flagstaff, I firmly believed that moving to Utah was the best choice for me and for Truely,” Christine said during the episode, filmed before the big move. “I knew that I was taking Truely away from her dad. I felt like the best way to preserve Truely’s relationship with Kody was to move her away from him.”

Kody, for his part, revealed during a confessional that he was “disgusted” by Christine’s actions. However, she claimed he wasn’t around when they lived in Flagstaff, Arizona.

“Let’s just say we’ve lived [in Flagstaff] for 800 days. He went hiking with us once. He’s been kayaking with us twice, one time he didn’t even get in the water,” Christine explained during the episode of Sister Wives. “That’s three times he’s gone with us. Three out of 800.”
