The judgment is finally in. Over two years after The Bachelor alum Chris Soules was involved in a fatal car crash, he has been sentenced to two years probation, In Touch can confirm. According to documents obtained by In Touch, the star entered a conditional plea of guilty to leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury — an aggravated misdemeanor — in November 2018. On Friday, August 23, he was sentenced to a “suspended two-year term of incarceration” as well as a $625 fine in addition to paying fees and court costs.

The terms of his punishment were first outlined on July 19 in a presentence investigation report prepared by the Department of Correctional Services. “The Department recommends Mr. Soules receive a suspended two-year term of incarceration,” they wrote at the time. “Based upon the foregoing, Mr. Soules requests the Court accept his previous and present waivers and consent,” the paperwork continued. The $625 fee the star has been ordered to pay is the “minimum amount” the court could levy.

Back in 2017, Chris, 37, opened up to In Touch about his legal battle. “My family and I are overwhelmed with this tragedy, but we are sticking together and we’ll get through it,” he exclusively told In Touch. “Thank you for reaching out.” Though the blond Bachelor did plead guilty to leaving the scene, the details of the accident are more complicated than they seem.

During the crash, the star rear-ended a man named Kenneth Mosher driving a tractor, ultimately killing him. He called 911 and stayed on the phone for several minutes, even checking the victim’s pulse and breathing. Though he waited for emergency medical services to arrive, he left the scene before the police had gotten there, and was later arrested in his home. Now, however, it seems Chris will be able to move forward. Hopefully, Mosher’s family will be able to do so, too.
