Bill Cosby Breaks His Silence in First Interview From Prison, Claims His Trial Was a ‘Setup’

He’s breaking his silence. Disgraced actor Bill Cosby has been in prison since September 2018 after he was sentenced to serve three to 10 years after being convicted of sexual assault against his former colleague Andrea Constand. Now, the former Cosby Show actor is speaking out, and he seemed to show no remorse for the actions he has been accused of committing.

“I have eight years and nine months left,” Cosby told National Newspaper Publishers Association’s BlackPressUSA.com, referring to the longer end of his sentence. “When I come up for parole, they’re not going to hear me say that I have remorse. I was there. I don’t care what group of people come along and talk about this when they weren’t there. They don’t know.”

Cosby is currently appealing his verdict, and he maintained his innocence. He claimed his trial was “all a setup. That whole jury thing. They were imposters.”

The comedian pointed out an incident that occurred after the jury selection process. He claimed at one point, a juror overhead another juror say they felt Cosby was guilty. His legal team brought the issue forward, but the judge deemed there was insufficient evidence and that juror remained on the jury. “It’s something attorneys will tell you is called a payoff,” Cosby claimed.

While behind bars, Cosby has been placed in the general population. While he says he is a “privileged man” in prison, he doubled down on his previous statements where he called himself a “political prisoner” and compared himself to Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Randal Robinson, and Dr. Benjamin Chavis. Cosby also said he thinks his prison sentence has to do with racial injustice.

“I know what they’ve done to my people. But my people are going to view me and say, ‘That boy looks good. That boy is strong,'” he said. “I have too many heroes that I’ve sat with. Too many heroes whom I listened to like John Henrik Clarke, Kenneth Clark, and Dorothy Height. Those people are very strong, and they saw the rejection of their people. This is political. I can see the whole thing.”
