While younger audiences will always remember her performance opposite Macaulay Culkin in the beloved 1992 holiday sequel, Fricker had actually already cemented herself as one of Ireland’s most famous actresses.
In 1990, she made history as the first Irish actress to win an Academy Award, taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the film, My Left Foot, where she starred alongside Daniel Day-Lewis.
Fricker appeared in dozens of film and television projects, including Angels in the Outfield, A Time to Kill, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Veronica Guerin and Albert Nobbs.
However, for most movie lovers, she’ll forever be remembered as the lonely woman who befriends Kevin McCallister in Home Alone 2.
