A mass shooting at the Route 91 music festival in Las Vegas left at least 50 dead and more than 400 injured on Oct. 1. Jason Aldean was on stage at the time, and watched the whole tragedy unfold in terror. The 40-year-old crooner was forced to run off-stage mid-song and duck for cover. Now, he’s speaking out to the victims and assuring fans that he and his crew are safe. Watch the video below for his full statement.
Other celebrities were also in Vegas at the time, and shared their experiences on social media. “So I just left the Route 91 country concert in Las Vegas,” wrote Flip or Flop star Tarek El Moussa. “I’m safe but there was an active shooting. Many people [were] shot and killed and [I’m] just really, really sad. So kind of bummed right now. Sucks that things like this happen. Have a good night.” Singer Trey Songz was also there, and wrote, “Don’t even know what to say. To be in Vegas while this is happening, brings a pain to my heart. My team and I are safe Thank God! Prayers up.”

Stars with Las Vegas shows also spoke out about the tragedy. Mariah Carey wrote, “Horrified to hear about the shooting in #LasVegas. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Praying for everyone’s safety.” Teller from the magic duo Penn & Teller said, “A dreadful shooting incident took place tonight in Vegas. All of us with the P&T show are healthy and unharmed.”

The attack began a little after 10 p.m. PST, when a 64-year-old man named Stephen Paddock allegedly began shooting an automatic weapon into the dense crowd from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay resort. After the vicious attack, police found the shooter dead and surrounded by as many as 10 guns, according to NBC News.
